Stevia Continues To Climb In 2015

Stevia continued to gain momentum in 2015 as a go-to sweetening ingredient for food and beverage products with more than 2,500 new or reformulated products including the ingredient. In fact, the beverage category has seen an almost 40 percent increase in launches over the last five years and food category launches have increased by almost 30 percent.

PureCircle expects this growth trend to continue as more and more products reformulate to lower total sugars or calories and as consumers continue to seek out products with more natural ingredients.


Regionally, all areas of the world saw an increase in product launches with stevia as well with Europe boasting a 73 percent increase over the last five years.

“For 2015, growth of stevia launches in Europe was driven by very high profile activity in the beverage category,” said PureCircle’s Europe Marketing Manager Olivier Kutz. “This is reflected in the top launch categories, as Carbonated Soft Drinks, Ready to Drink Tea and Juice Drink collectively represent over one third of launches – but Confectionery (sweet and chocolate), as well as Dairy are gradually catching up.”


The Snack Category continues to lead the way in growth with Other Beverages ( protein drinks, meal replacements, etc.) in second place and the Dairy Category rounding out the top three.
